Qualifications:
High School Diploma required.
Hours: Varies. Must be willing and able to report to work each scheduled workday by 5:45 a.m. and return to work before your assigned bus leaves for the afternoon route.
Duties of School Bus Safety Monitor
The function of the School Bus Safety Monitor is that of assisting the driver and the Supervisor of Transportation. The School Bus Safety Monitor does not change the responsibility of the School Bus Driver. The School Bus Driver has the full responsibility for the safe transportation of the children to and from school.
Requirements:
A School Bus Safety Monitor must be able to meet the requirements of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Monitor must also be able to always be available for the beginning and completion of the routes for both morning and afternoon, unless a time off request has been made and approved by the Supervisor. If a Monitor is clocked in, he or she must be flexible in assisting with any midday routes, field trips, or any other required transportation of students during the school day.
Duties:
- Assists students in boarding the bus.
- Assist students in getting off the bus, both at school and on the way home.
- At railroad crossings the Monitor assists in making sure the bus is quiet so the driver can conduct their proper procedures, which includes listening for signals, horns or any other sounds that a train is approaching the crossing.
- The Monitor will ensure all students remain in their seats while the bus is in motion.
- The Monitor helps to keep order on the bus.
- The Monitor assists the driver check attendance.
- The Monitor ensures that Students keep hands, arms, legs, or head inside the bus.
- The Monitor assists in emergency evacuation procedures.
- The Monitor aids the driver in the cleaning of the bus.
- The Monitor assists the Supervisor in other transportation duties as assigned.
